Chickadee And Nuthatch

Chickadee and nuthatch
Carolina Chickadees have a longer tail, a smaller bill, and are less compact than nuthatches. They also don't climb up and down tree trunks the way nuthatches do.
How do you identify a chickadee?
Tiny, approachable bird with a short neck and large head, giving it a distinctive spherical body shape. Stark white cheeks contrast with black cap and throat. Note grayish nape or collar and grayish edging on secondaries.
Why is it called the chickadee?
Their name reputedly comes from the fact that their calls make a distinctive "chick-a-dee-dee-dee", though their normal call is actually "fee-bee," and the "chick-a-dee-dee-dee" call is an alarm call. The number of "dees" depends on the predator.
What is a little chickadee called?
John James Audubon referred to what we now call chickadees as “titmice,” another reference to their diminutive stature that ending up sticking for a few other American species in the Paridae family.
